Lumiere
One of the objectives for the Market Place and Vennels project in Durham was to make it a space for venues for events befitting a World Heritage City. The November arts festival entitled Lumiere, and produced by the arts collective, Artichoke, demonstrated the full potential of the space to fulfil this role. Thirty installations illuminated the historic skyline of Durham, including a huge dome of light which turned Lord Londonderry into a giant snow shaker in the Market Square.
We are absolutely delighted to see our work being used in this way and congratulate Artichoke and Durham city Vision for such successful and spectacular event.

New Public Realm for Harlow
HARLOW : As public realm masterplanners, Macgregor Smith have proposed fresh qualities to the streets and squares of the town centre, with a focus on the Market Square. This town is one of the famous 1940’s New Towns, and keeping with Gibberd’s aspiration, our proposals seek to bring the spirit of the surrounding landscape into the centre through a series of town gardens, an ideal setting for Harlow’s extensive sculpture collection. We have since been commissioned to prepare a series of interim improvements throughout the town centre to inject colour and life into key spaces. Works will be starting on site June 2011.

We are pleased to announce the promotion of Clare Ellison to Senior Landscape Architect.
Clare joined Macgregor Smith in June 2006. Landscape design is her second career. Having graduated from Leeds University in Textile Management, she wished to extend her design skills into the public realm, and Clare undertook a post graduate conversion course. Clare’s knowledge of the colours, patterns and textures in textiles has proved an excellent background for her work with Macgregor Smith in Landscape Design. This added dimension combined with thorough experience in “high profile” masterplanning and design for construction has led to this well deserved promotion.
