Bargate Quarter proposals approved

Exciting new proposals for the redevelopment of Bargate Quarter have been granted approval by Southampton City Council. This unique site is located adjacent to the Grade 1 Bargate – the old medieval gateway into the town – with surviving Grade 1 listed Scheduled Ancient Monument town walls running along the north side of the site.
Providing new public open space is a fundamental part of the redevelopment of this city centre site and the enhancement of the setting of the City’s historic walls. The public realm proposals developed by Macgregor Smith include the creation of a new generous pedestrian route through the site – for the first time in decades, residents and users will be able to walk along the length of the revealed town walls, with a unique series of garden spaces and cafes within the setting of the wall.
