We are extremely proud of the news that our very own Ki Tong has won a Silver Gilt Award for her Blooming Border design at the RHS Tatton Park Flower Show!
Ki’s garden, ‘The Mindful Garden’ explores how mindfulness has been scientifically proven to be effective in alleviating stresses and major psychological illnesses. The exercise encourages passive observation of the surrounding environment and Ki’s border looks to apply the principles of mindfulness to planting, which changes in response to the weather and seasons.
The range of herbaceous perennials and grasses in the border vary in form, with their textures reflecting the sun and shade and creating eye-catching movements in the summer breeze. A water tank and bespoke channel uses rainwater to create a water curtain in the centre of the bed to stimulate yet more senses. The planting palette is dominated by pale colours at the end of the visual spectrum to promote insect habitation, which adds acoustic interests to the visual amenity of the border.
