Temple Reach, Bristol

Riverside student living in Bristol

Located on a brownfield site in the heart of Bristol’s Temple Quarter — one of the UK’s largest regeneration projects — the £150 million Temple Reach development will be among the first new schemes to be delivered as part of the ambitious transformation of this formerly industrial area of the city.

Just a five-minute walk from Temple Meads train station and the Temple Quarter Enterprise Campus, the site enjoys an enviable position alongside the River Avon, with expansive views across Temple Island.

The development will provide student housing and affordable workspace, with over half of the site dedicated to public realm. Designed to encourage movement through the area, the scheme includes new pedestrian and cycle links running east to west, directly connecting to Temple Island via St Philip’s Bridge. It also incorporates one of the first proposed sections of the planned tree-lined ‘boulevard’ along Albert Road, aligning with Bristol City Council’s broader masterplanning aspirations for the area.

“Macgregor Smith’s collaborative approach throughout the planning process has really helped to build strong relationships and win support from the wider community.  Balancing energy, passion, and technical expertise, they’ve brought a genuine ‘can do’ attitude to the design team, helping shape a scheme we’re all proud of.”

Will Tomlinson, Development Director, CUBEX

Temple Reach is one of the first developments to support the Bristol Avon Flood Strategy, delivering a crucial section of the flood bund to help safeguard nearby areas against future flood risks. This bund also forms part of a proposed future riverside greenway network and offers a generous green outlook from within the development. Together with public realm improvements and rooftop terraces for students, the scheme delivers an impressive 3800% Biodiversity Net Gain.

The project received unanimous approval from Bristol City Councillors in 2025.
