The Store House, Leeds

The Store House, located along the Briggate in Leeds City Centre, has transformed a former House of Fraser site into new purpose-built student accommodation providing 369 en-suite bedrooms alongside 3,000m² of flexible retail space at ground level.

The ten storey development has been sensitively designed to fit within the historic fabric of the Briggate – one of Leeds’ primary streets – in scale, tone and detailing.

The scheme provides new amenity spaces, including co-working and study areas, a wellness suite, lounge, private screening room, and semi-private garden terrace at level 1. A private dining area provides access to a roof terrace on level 8, which offers views across the city toward The Headrow, Kirkgate and the Corn Exchange.

The two external terraces have been designed to serve different functions. The lower terrace provides a series of quiet, secluded spaces set within a densely planted garden. Its woodland understory planting mix features soft greens and calming colours, creating a relaxed atmosphere, while also providing an attractive green outlook for the adjacent rooms.

In contrast, the upper terrace provides an open, social space associated with the internal/external dining area with geometric rooms set into lush, bright planting surrounding seating booths that look out over the city.

The development received unanimous approval from Leeds City Council’s Planning Committee, demonstrating strong support for the regeneration of this prominent city-centre building.
