Located in the beating heart of Piccadilly – next door to Fortnum & Mason and opposite the Royal Academy of Arts, 30 Duke Street has been designed by Make Architects for Great Portland Estates and delivered on site by Mace.
The building boasts truly impressive material reuse and circular economy credentials without compromising one bit on design and quality. Over three quarters of the structural frame has been constructed from reclaimed steel, much of which has been sourced from a donor building with Great Portland Estates’ portfolio.
Our involvement as the project Landscape Architects focused primarily on the building’s terraces at Levels five, six and seven as well as a feature amenity terrace on level eight and the building’s ground floor pavements and thresholds.
The level 8 amenity roof terrace design takes inspiration from the famous Piccadilly collar or ‘piccadill’, its evolution in fashion through time and the story of Beau Brummell, the man credited as the spiritual inventor of modern menswear and whose statue graces the pavement on Jermyn Street below.
The roof terrace space provides a variety of seating areas, each offering fantastic views across Westminster, the West End and towards the Square Mile.
The design’s use of bold colour and a dramatic planting palette accentuates its form as a flamboyant collar wrapping around the building.
